I’ve been fortunate to work with great volunteers and professionals during my time in Scouting. Several have taken a moment to share a few thoughts about me for your review:
Mark Kraus
Scout Executive, Connecticut Yankee Council
“Joe has built strong relationships with volunteers at all levels of the council along with strong relationships with various companies and organizations for help with funding the council. The staff is very responsive to Joe, and he takes the time to sit down with them to understand their issues and challenges.
I certainly feel that Joe is more than qualified to lead his own council and will work diligently to achieve the goals to move the council forward.”
Jim Accomando
Council President, Connecticut Yankee Council
“Joe also leads our many efforts in improving not just our camping experiences but in infrastructure enhancements using monies from strategic property sales and development.
Joe is in a leadership position where he not only oversees initiatives but a team of staff responsible for much of our development and membership growth.”
Eugene Waring
Council Commissioner, Connecticut Yankee Council
“Joseph Andreo has proven to be a fine scouter, and a self-motivated, creative, and conscientious leader who welcomes challenges both in and out of the Scouting. I am confident that Joe will continue to promote scouting and all its activities, allowing scouts the opportunity to experience scouting to its fullest. Therefore, I strongly recommend him as a candidate for position of Scout Executive in your council.”
Seth Strohecker
Vice President- Membership, Connecticut Yankee Council
“Having worked with Joe for many years he has shown that he is a capable and dedicated leader. Joe has proven that he can build and lead teams, raise money and develop relationships. He has been a huge asset to our council While it will be a big loss to our council, I know he will be successful in the Scout Executive role.”
Steve Prostor
Former Vice President- Development, Connecticut Yankee Council
“As VP Development for Connecticut Yankee Council, I’ve worked closely with Joe over the past three years on all aspects of our Council’s fundraising activities.
During that time, I’ve found him to be an experienced Scouter, a passionate staffer and most importantly a “doer”, willing to personally do whatever is necessary to accomplish the task at hand.
Joe also has an extensive network of fellow Scouters at the Region, Area and National levels and strong networking and relationship management skills developed over many years of working in finance.”
David B. Sippin
Past President, Connecticut Yankee Council
“I am confident Joe will make an excellent scout executive. He has the ability and broad experience necessary for this demanding position. As our director of development, Joe did an exceptional job and initiated many successful fundraising events for our council. He has the skill to source and recruit high-quality honorees and featured speakers, craft engaging agendas, and attract large attendance to make these events programmatically and financially successful. “
Rudy Escalanate
Past President, Connecticut Yankee Council
“Joe always does what is best for scouting and our council. He is able to get people to work with him to contribute time, money and other resources to further the CT Yankee council objectives.
I have been involved directly with Joe on many projects over the years and he is a great asset to our council. He roles up his sleeves and gets things done. He has been my “go to” guy when I need something done and he has not failed to deliver on whatever I have asked him to do.”
Jay Lubin
Vice President- Program, Connecticut Yankee Council
“I know Joe to be a hands-on leader, with the ability to simultaneously focus on mission success and on his people, volunteer and professional alike. Developing sustained youth membership growth has been a challenge (true for most Councils today). Joe has been an important partner in building our membership. One specific success in which Joe’s role was invaluable, was welcoming girls into our Scout’s BSA program.
On March 6, 2019, our Council President asked me to form an Enterprise Risk Management Committee to address the challenges that we faced with the emerging COVID-19 pandemic, a situation confronted by every Council in the country. I brought Joe onto my Committee on Day 1 because I knew I could count on him to be both strategic and tactical, through uncharted territory.”
Eric Brantley
Field Director, Connecticut Yankee Council
“Joseph possesses a unique ability to inspire and motivate those around him. His leadership style is characterized by his strong vision, excellent decision-making skills, and a genuine concern for the growth and development of his team members. He consistently sets clear goals and expectations, and empowers his team to achieve them by providing guidance, resources, and constructive feedback.”
Ranger Dave Boyajian
Ranger, Camp Sequassen
“He works with all levels of volunteers, from the smallest of units right up to the executive board. Joe was also given the responsibility of being the general contractor of a complete remodeling of the Connecticut Yankee Council main office building. I must say Joe did an outstanding job organizing volunteers, acquiring donations of materials, and skilled labor to see that job through to the end.
Joe possesses the perfect balance of professionalism, knowledge, understanding, enthusiasm and good humor. The staff (myself included) and volunteers love working with him.”
Ray Moncevicius
Board Member, Connecticut Yankee Council
“I have 34 years of adult scouting experience and my experiences with Joe from a professional side have been nothing less than perfect and I do not say that lightly. Joe is well organized when it comes to tasks at hand on any event, but his strength is he has a remarkable gift to make myself and other volunteers feel part of the team. In other words, we are all working together for the betterment of this youth program.”
Jeanne Lewis
Volunteer, Connecticut Yankee Council
“Joe, the person and the Scouter; he is dedicated and willing to work hard and side by side the volunteers. In doing so he forms a working and respectful relationship with the volunteers. He listens, which can be a rare commodity, but a truly necessary skill in today’s society. Joe cares: he cares about the youth, about providing the best program to help them grow. He cares about the volunteers and works to engage and support them.”
Ed McLaughlin
Retired Deputy Director, Northeast Region- BSA
“Joe has succeeded very nicely as a development professional and his resume speaks to those accomplishments. However, all the work that he has done raising money, it is always with an eye towards how it will help Scouts in their local unit. His relationship skills work very well with the business community and he tells the Scouting story with passion.
Joe will bring sound “programmatic and business relationship” experience to your council.”
Scott Christensen
Immediate Past President, Northeast Region
“I am well familiar with the Connecticut Yankee Council from my time as Area Commissioner and Area President coupled with my Northeast Region post as President. The situation there can best be described as fluid and sometimes fragile depending upon the point in time. Joe has proven to be the reliable anchor throughout. I credit him in great measure for the positive condition in which this Council finds itself today.”
Charles Flowers
Scout Executive, Occoneechee Council
Former Scout Executive, Connecticut Yankee Council
“Joe has served admirably as the Council’s Director of Development/CFO. Under Joe’s leadership and guidance, the council remodeled its Service Center, rebuilt the FundDevelopment Committee and conducted a dozen special events including several ‘Good Scout’ Dinner events on an annual basis. He has a strong successful background in staff development, volunteer recruitment and leadership. The Connecticut Yankee Council’sfundraising teams and other key Board level volunteers have benefitted from his drive, focus, and strategic thinking. Joe is dedicated to building a culture of accountability. Additionally, he exhibits a strong work ethic and is considered reliable and conscientious.”
