I’ve focused my career on building Scouting across the board, but with an emphasis on fund development, membership and properties.

Take a look at some of what my teams and I have accomplished:

Council Improvements

As my career in Scouting has progressed, I have been fortunate to have been able to work alongside volunteers and professionals who are focused on developing properties in a sustainable manner. Working with our Properties Committee, soliciting donations, and running Capital Campaigns we have been able to build, renovate, and improve our facilities to offer more services to our Scouts.

Connecticut Yankee Council Service Center

Managed a 15-month $400,000 renovation that completely updated the Connecticut Yankee Council Service Center. Ran a capital campaign and secured gifts in kind to go along with a seed gift of $200,000. Additionally, I received a donation of $150,000 in new office furniture from a corporate partner.

STEAM Lab

Worked with and made an ask of a corporate partner to donate $25,000 to build a lab at the Connecticut Yankee Council Service Center, donate hardware, and other program supplies.

STEM Lab & Trades Building

Secured over $20,000 of program supplies from construction trade unions. We were able to retrofit an existing building with the generosity of a longtime volunteer.

Water-Front Pavilion and new sea wall at Camp Sequassen

To honor the memory of a Scouter who passed away, I guided volunteers and staff to raise funds to renovate our resident camp’s waterfront to include the Dave Farley Aquatic Learning Center and replace a decades-old sea wall.

Shower House

Utilizing a foundation gift and securing other donors, we built a new year-round shower house at Camp Sequassen.

Housatonic Council

Camp Strang Improvements

  • Solicited a grant from the MidwayUSA foundation to build a new two station shotgun trap house.
  • Cultivated a donor to replace 20 well worn rooves, refurbish the rifle range, and insulate the training center (attic and under building).
  • Replaced seawall and currently building new boat house for storage in the winter and a teaching facility and bad weather shelter in the summer.
  • Upgrading electrical service to add HVAC to several buildings.

Fundraising Events

I have grown and created numerous Council Events during my time in Scouting. Additionally, I was able to create numerous District Events to help Districts reach their Friends of Scouting goals. Events such as a Game Dinner, Wine Tasting, Comedy Night, Ladies Tea Party, Beer Tasting, Auction Night, and an Oktoberfest. The Game Dinner in particular grew to be a much-anticipated event, raising $25,000 each year.

  • Increased Friends of Scouting campaigns by 33% from 2014 to 2016
  • Increased Special Events by 40% from 2016 to 2019
  • Created and ran an FOS Kickoff Breakfast in 2019 and 2020 raising $86,000 and $105,000 respectively
  • During the pandemic, pivoted to successful Council Virtual Events, and outdoor District Events at camp.
  • Raised over $250,000 in additional revenue in 2022 and 2023.
  • Special Event revenue increased by 70% by adding two new events in 2024 (Valley Leadership Dinner and Golf Outing), two new events in 2025 (FOS – Camp for All and an Auction & Tasting Night), and one new event in 2026 (Game Dinner) for the Housatonic Council as Scout Executive.

Membership & Program Growth

  • Grew Membership in the Pomperaug District in 2016; District attained JTE Silver. This was accomplished when I was the full-time Development Director.
  • Selected staff advisor in 2018 to head the initiative to bring girls into Scouting.
  • Part of the management team that helped create an “Extreme Scouting” event. This event aims to recruit Scouts of all ages for a one-day outdoor experience at camp.
  • Membership growth of 7.9% 2022 and 10.4% in 2023
  • In 2024, recruited 80 new Scouts (May-Dec) and in 2025, recruited 185 Scouts. Both recruitment years would have been substantial increases if it weren’t for the membership fraud I inherited when joining the council as Scout Executive.
  • Added new program activities for Cub Scouts; including Family Camp and Cub Resident Camp. Focus was on Webelos and Arrow of Light cross-over.
  • Started an Explorer Post at Echo Hose Ambulance and introduced the Advancing Heroes Foundation. Advancing Heroes is willing to support any Explorer Scout that is interested in working on their EMT and Paramedic qualifications.
