Dear Selection Committee,

I am writing to express my interest in the Scout Executive position at the Coastal Carolina Council. I am a seasoned Scouting and finance professional with a leadership, management, development, relationship management, and project management background. I am currently the Scout Executive of the Housatonic Council and as an Eagle Scout, I am a leader by nature and a driven professional that works hard to accomplish the goals of the council which support, manage, and fund the programs our organization supplies to the youth in Scouting.

I believe that with the professional experience that I possess, I would prove to be a highly qualified and valuable asset to the Coastal Carolina Council. I have worked as a CEO, COO, CFO, Director of Development, Relationship Manager, Project Manager, Process Manager, and Broker. Throughout my career I have built, trained, motivated, recruited, and led the teams and committees I have managed. I have very strong relationship management skills and have worked with CEO’s, COO’s, Presidents, and philanthropic entrepreneurs as clients and donors in my career. I have managed teams of as many as twenty-five employees and have been responsible for billions of dollars going in and out of the organizations, I have worked for. After a twenty-year career in finance, I began my career in Scouting as a Development Director but took the initiative to learn every facet of the Council and the volunteers it served. By taking time to develop personal relationships with volunteers and board members, I was able to identify and utilize the skills and passions they possessed to benefit the council. As a leader, I have advanced from Director of Development to Director of Support Services, to Assistant Scout Executive, and now to the Scout Executive of the Housatonic Council. Each role was new and challenging and gave me the opportunity to learn and advance through Scouting. Along the way, I was able to improve and increase all the metrics within my areas of responsibility.

My brother, father and I in....

My role in the council is to lead, inspire, and manage our fundraising, recruitment (youth & adult), safety initiatives, camping activities and properties, marketing, support services, and facilities operations. I have raised Direct Support through: individual, corporate, and community giving; major gifts; special events; and soliciting foundations through grant writing. Community involvement is essential in every role of the council, and it is something I encourage my staff to get involved in to help grow Scouting awareness. All of the events, activities, camp programs, and recruitment campaigns are growth orientated. As the financial demands of our organization continue to increase, it is more important than ever to raise awareness of Scouting in a challenging environment for nonprofits.

The accompanying resume details the past twenty-five plus years of my career and outlines the positions I have held. I have built departments, teams, and committees from the ground up through staffing, developing processes, developing procedures and training my teams and committees. My management, development, recruitment, and relationship management skills make me uniquely qualified for this position along with my work ethic. I look forward to speaking with you directly to see how I can help move the Coastal Carolina Council forward and lead your Scouts, Scouters, and Scouting families into the future. Thank you for your consideration!

Yours in Scouting,
