If selected to serve as your Scout Executive, I intend to complete a 90-day action plan, designed with the specific goal of immersing myself into the culture and environment of the Housatonic Council so that I may understand the strengths, needs, challenges, and opportunities of the Council. This action plan would be in addition to performing the normal duties for the day-to-day operations of the Council.
- Meet with the Council President regularly to gain a deeper understanding of council operations, finances and volunteers needs.
- Meet with the Council Commissioner to discuss service plans, unit strengths and challenges as well as needed service initiatives.
- Meet with staff and key volunteers to discuss their current responsibilities and perspective in order to enhance their personal and professional growth.
- Meet with each Executive Board member to introduce myself and seek their continued involvement in helping the Council achieve both short and long term objectives. Discuss their views on the strengths, needs, challenges, and opportunities of the Council.
- Spend time in the district and camp, visiting key volunteers and stakeholders. Schedule “Fireside Chats” for the Council Key 3 in September to visit with and answer questions of volunteer leadership to better understand their thoughts and concerns.
- Working with the board and staff review the membership and unit plan to address membership losses and ultimately grow overall membership and units. Visit with school officials, community organizations, and individuals important to Scouting’s success.
- Utilize the summer months to regularly visit camp in order to develop a deeper understanding of current programs, maintenance projects and future opportunities.
- Working with the board and staff review and evaluate all revenue development campaigns, recognizing areas of success and opportunities for future growth.
- Meet with key volunteers and staff responsible for both internal and external communications in order to familiarize myself with the Councils marketing plan and to review the plan for outreach as it relates to key issues and initiatives.
