Dear Selection Committee,

I am writing to express my interest in the Scout Executive position at the Housatonic Council. I am a seasoned finance professional with a development, relationship management, process management and project management background. As an Eagle Scout, I am a leader by nature and a driven professional that works hard to accomplish the goals of our Council which supports the programs, activities, and camps our Council offers to over ten thousand Scouts and Scouters. I am currently the Assistant Scout Executive/COO (acting in a Deputy Scout Executive capacity) for the Connecticut Yankee Council, responsible for membership growth, camping operations, facility management, support services, and revenue generation.

I believe that with the professional experience I possess, I would prove to be a highly qualified asset to the Housatonic Council. Throughout my career I have built, trained, motivated, and led the teams I have managed. I have very strong relationship management skills and have worked with CEO’s, COO’s, presidents, and directors as clients and volunteers in my career. I have managed teams of as many as 20 employees and been responsible for billions of dollars flowing through the organizations in which I have worked. I began my career in Scouting as a Development Director but took the initiative to learn every facet of our Council and the volunteers that serve it. By taking time to develop personal relationships with volunteers and Board Members, I have been able to identify and utilize the skills and passions they possess to benefit the Council. During my tenure, I had the opportunity to volunteer to be the District Executive for our largest district for over a year while fulfilling my development duties. It was very educational and gave me the opportunity to plan membership and growth campaigns, run program, and service units that I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to experience. Under my management, that district had finance and membership growth from the prior year and improved to Silver JTE.

As a development professional, I was able to progress and improve all categories of fundraising over the years, promoting to Director of Development/CFO. As Director of Support Services, I had the opportunity to run camping operations at five camps (now three), the overall program committee, ScoutReach, and support operations for the Council. In my current role as Assistant Scout Executive/COO, membership has increased exponentially, and camping continues to exceed goals. With my experience in all areas of the Council and my analytical background, I lead our staff and play an integral role in managing day to day operations and growing our Council.

The accompanying resume details the past 20 plus years of my career and outlines the positions I have held. I have built departments, teams, and committees from the ground up through staffing, developing processes, developing procedures and cross training my teams. I believe my skills make me uniquely qualified for this position along with my work ethic and the belief that Scouting is the best youth program in the world, building character, leadership skills, and memories that last a lifetime. I look forward to speaking with you directly to see how I can help move the Housatonic Council forward and lead your team! Thank you for your consideration.

Yours in Scouting,
