Scout Executive/ CEO

05/24- Present

  • Give leadership to staff and volunteers in all aspects of the council, including development, recruitment, safety, camping, marketing, support services, and facilities.
  • Develop yearly $600,000 budget. Chair the Budget, Audit, Risk, Nominating, Development, Membership, and Properties Committees. The council made budget and had an $18,000 surplus for the first time in almost a decade in 2025.
  • Develop yearly development plans and event budgets. Doubled the number of events and fundraisers to increase revenue.
  • Coordinate and manage council major gift initiatives, board solicitations, grant writing, and capital campaigns. Increased grant writing solicitations to increase revenue in both the operations and capital funds.
  • Successfully recruited the mayors and town selectmen to create a new fundraising event for the five towns the council serves.
  • Manage product sales and brought in a new product in 2025 to help increase revenue. Increased product sales participation to 90%.
  • Develop yearly membership, activities, and camping operations plans. Recruited volunteers to help administer the plans. Instrumental in recruiting 185 Scouts, added new activities, and increased camp participation in 2025.
  • Created an initiative to drive improvements at camp through grant writing, recruiting volunteer tradesmen, and running a capital campaign to replace the camp dining hall. Achieved over $300,000 in improvements and additions at camp in 2025.
  • Instituted a plan for local units to volunteer at camp and help reduce deferred maintenance through monthly camp work parties.
  • Developed an Enterprise Risk Management Committee to review safety procedures and ensure incident reporting was streamlined.
  • Chaired and helped develop a new three-year strategic plan.
  • Restructured board and created an advisory board. Implemented an initiative to recruit community business leaders through council nominating committee. Advisory board is intimately familiar with program activities and is able to drive volunteer recruitment.
  • Active with the Valley Community Foundation, Valley United Way, Valley Chamber, Valley Council, TEAM, and the Derby-Shelton Rotary. Involvement with each organization is paramount to the success of the council.

  • Instrumental in the development of a 3.6 million budget. Chaired the Budget, Risk, Ops, and Properties Committees.
  • Developed yearly development plan and event budgets that annually raised over $1.1 million.
  • Developed yearly camping operations plan and budget that annually raised over $1.3 million.
  • Developed yearly membership plan. Managed staff of District Executives responsible for a 10.4% increase in membership in 2023, a 5% increase in 2022, and a 4% increase in 2021.
  • Organized and implemented all council Special Event fundraisers, raising over $350,000 a year. These events saw a 40% increase from 2016 to 2020. Streamlined events by eliminating underachieving events and rebranding them to accentuate regions. This resulted in increased revenues and decreased costs.
  • Raised budgeted $1.1 million Direct Support goal from 2017 to 2020 with enhanced grant, corporate, and major gift campaigns.
  • Created, coordinated, and implemented experiential events, including Wild Game Dinner, Beer Tastings, Wine Tasting, Ladies Tea Party, Comedy Night, Steak-Out, Lobster Bake, Oktoberfest, and Corporate Pinewood Derby events to supplement revenue. These events promoted Scouting awareness and community involvement.
  • Identified opportunities to gain support for all events through crossover initiatives from other events and supporters. Includes project sales and in-kind gifts for events as well as camp and building solicitations.
  • Coordinated and managed council major gift initiatives, board solicitations, and foundation resource initiatives.
  • Created and implemented a Friends of Scouting (individual & corporate giving) breakfast that raised $86,000 in 2019 and $105,000 in 2020. Recruited and developed Scouting and corporate level table hosts and donors.
  • Organized and coordinated Friends of Scouting Campaigns (individual & corporate giving). Tasked with planning, recruiting, training, presentation scheduling, follow-up, and community campaign efforts. Increased campaigns by 33% from 2014 to 2016.
  • Responsible for foundation grant writing and soliciting corporate support. Successful in writing grant application requests to foundations and soliciting major gifts, in-kind gifts, and project sales support from small, medium, and large businesses. Raised over $250,000 in 2020 and 2021, including initiatives for ScoutReach and STEM activities.
  • Responsible for year-round facilities operations, guidelines, maintenance, camp promotions and all marketing materials.
  • Responsible for 5 local camps, facility maintenance, and property management at Council Resource Center, including managing four tenants. Organized and coordinated a $400,000 council renovation project as on-site project manager. Successfully ran a capital campaign, raising funds to build and stock a STEM Lab at the Council Resource Center and a year-round shower house at Camp Sequassen, including managing budget and planning.
  • Managed council’s ScoutReach and Hispanic outreach initiatives. Oversaw a 115% increase in membership growth over a five-year period in those initiatives.
  • Worked with a Marketing Specialist to develop Marketing Plans for development, camping, membership recruitment and all council communications through social media, newsletter communications and unit/district guidance via email.
