Leadership Development:

I strive to live by the Scout Oath and Scout Law. This drives me in my everyday life, and it is how I choose to lead. By providing a leadership vision for volunteers and staff, I am able to create an energetic and positive environment for the betterment of the youth, families and communities we partner to serve.

It all begins with a positive attitude. A positive attitude generates enthusiasm and enthusiasm creates a positive energy that people are drawn to. By building a positive culture, it will create a winning environment. Also, instilling a sense of pride, by channeling a spirit of determination and tenacity that fosters an environment where both volunteers and staff serve with a greater purpose that ultimately delivers success.

I believe that accountability and attention to detail are a hallmark of any successful TEAM. Creating an environment where everybody’s ideas and contributions are valued and considered, forming an alignment that allows honest dialogue and the ability to recalibrate strategies while keeping our initiatives moving forward. Teamwork and collaboration at both the volunteer and staff levels will lead to sustainable membership growth, financial growth, and ultimately growth of our programs and the organization.

My end goal is to manage the process and lead the TEAM!

Membership Growth:

Without a doubt, consistent and sustainable membership growth is the number one priority for the Boy Scouts of America. It is imperative to rebuild and grow membership recruitment teams to return to past registration levels. I believe that in today’s environment, we need to use every resource at our disposal and become more creative when recruiting Scouts and Scouters. I have been successful in growing membership in the past, exceeding council goals each year.

Council outreach opportunities should also be addressed. With programs now available to boys and girls, how do we provide a quality Scouting program to our local underserved communities? There are numerous opportunities through foundation grants, local government support, and business donors to make this a reality.

Most would acknowledge that Scouting units reach their capacity based on meeting location, culture and quality of leadership; therefore, a thoughtful, patient and targeted membership plan that highlights both expanding existing units and new unit campaigns will be required for long term success.

Financial Development:

Although I have worked in every aspect of Council Operations, Financial Development has been a key focus. Utilizing my relationship-building skills, I have been able to build larger committees, recruit key volunteers, and cultivate donors to increase all areas of Development in my Scouting Career.

I believe that staff, board, and volunteers all play a role in fundraising. I have increased Friends of Scouting campaigns, rebuilt and increased Special Events, created and expanded Experiential Events, cultivated major gifts, researched and received foundation grants, and managed product sales. I was successful in driving total direct support to goal each year with a clear detailed plan and collaborative effort from all involved. At times it was a struggle to keep others involved and that’s when you roll up your sleeves and get it done.

Consistent follow-up and cultivation are the key to growing development. Through these practices, we were able to consistently make total direct support goals and revitalize major gift and capital fundraising efforts resulting in transformational capital improvements to camp properties and our service center.

Program Offerings:

Offering a vibrant and exciting program to our Scouts is a necessity! The past few years have proven that the survival of our movement requires a strong program offering that both excites and challenges our youth.

We will have to continue to keep our youth safe, train our volunteers so they can offer a great program, and continue to have new adventures and themes to keep our Scouts involved. This will require renewed investment to keep our programs and camps a fun learning environment, a place to foster character and leadership development, and allow our Scouts to make memories for a lifetime.

The country needs the best youth program in the world, now more than ever!
