Scouters as a group, volunteers and professionals alike, are so dedicated and committed to the Movement we all love so dearly, work tirelessly and are worthy of any and all recognition. With this in mind, selecting one individual among them for consideration of the loftiest of honors, becoming your next Scout Executive, can be a nearly impossible task. I am in a position to comment having chaired several such selection teams. To properly do so, however, requires that a candidate’s body of work and level of contribution clearly be above and beyond.
It is said that timing is everything. If that be the case, this is an ideal moment for your Council as well as for Scouting professional, Joseph Andreo from the Connecticut Yankee Council (CYC), to form a meaningful partnership. This is so because you are seeking an extraordinary candidate to lead your Council to the next level of excellence, while Joe is passionate about and committed to exactly that task.
With that being said, I am pleased to write you today on behalf of Joe Andreo, a Professional Scouter, who I am confident rises above the rest.
A review of Joe’s extensive career demonstrates a most attractive balance between the For-Profit World and the Not-For-Profit sector. The 23-year tenure in Banking and Finance is most portable and provides a meaningful perspective for him into the financial workings of a Council plus insight into donors with whom he may be interacting.
I am well familiar with the Connecticut Yankee Council from my time as Area Commissioner and Area President coupled with my Northeast Region post as President. The situation there can best be described as fluid and sometimes fragile depending upon the point in time. Joe has proven to be the reliable anchor throughout. I credit him in great measure for the positive condition in which this Council finds itself today.
In both his Cover Letter addressed to you and the Resume he has submitted; he has highlighted the details of his impressive performance while at the CYC. The accomplishments are eye-popping while the progression of elevated benchmarks difficult to have envisioned. They are all a credit to his efforts and perseverance for which he has been and should be applauded.
I will conclude merely by saying that in my opinion, Joseph T. Andreo is the ideal candidate to be the next Scout Executive for the Housatonic Council. He is perhaps even more highly-qualified than most nominees given the breadth and depth of his career experience. He is extremely accomplished, yet a very humble man. In a conversation, you would not learn of all he has done unless you inquire directly.
As an Eagle Scout, OA Vigil Member and Jamboree Staff Member on my team in 2017, he has devoted his total self for the benefit of Scouting and to the Council to which he is entirely committed. have been honored to share with you how highly I recommend Joe for this position. I sincerely hope and trust that your Scout Executive Selection Committee will agree.
